Rear Windowshades
There are hundreds of miles of allies in Chicago and this is a very common view.
In this painting, we have a couple of typical brick 3-flats with frame-addition sunporches and wooden exterior porches. While the porches were originally only meant for secondary access to the apartments, many people new to the city, assume these are decks and overload them with parties. This is especially true where replacement porches have been made out of pressure-treated lumber and resemble decks one might find in the suburbs.
