Old Is New

Beginning with turning old factories into loft apartments, there started a backward movement in design. We seemed to have hit the end of the line. Everything has been done before. We are buried in what we have produced. The only thing left is to dig through the pile of stuff, look back at the old. Pick what is useful and learn from the past. Architects started doing this in the early 1990s. Our new public spaces and buildings are now warmer and more human because of this. Automotive designers have picked up on this in the late 1990s and early 2000s with the New Beetle, Thunderbird, Viper, Prowler, Mustang and PT Cruiser (of course the Jeep and Harley have always been new old design). As a result, cars have soul once more. What's new is old and what's old is new.
